Generation of computer

Generation in computer is growth of a step by step Technology. Originally that term generation was used to distinguish between hardware and software. Technology which gradually changed during that period of time. In Computer technology hardware and software extended. There are totally five computer generation known until today.
Each and every generation has been distinguish below in detail along with its identifying characteristics :-

1. First generation of computer (1942-55)
The first generation of computer were vacuum tube based machine. These valves Greatly large. Each was able to hold only a single bit. In fact the first generation computer using vaccum tube as a CPU component. It was only high speed switching device available in those days. First generation use machine language and Assembly language for programming. In this period first generation never used operating system.
Examples:- ENIVAC, UNIVAC, IBM 701, IBM 704.

                First generation of computer

ADVANTAGE
1. Vacuum tube were the only electronic component available during those period     of time.
2. Vaccum tube Technology made possible   to make electronic digital computer.
3. These computer could calculate data in    millisecond.
DISADVANTAGE
1. The first generation computer was large in size.
2. The first generation computer consume large amount of electricity.
3. They heated very soon due to thousand of vacuum tube.
4. Air condition was required.
5. Very slow speed.
6. Non-portable.
7. Use magnetic drum which provide very less data storage.
8. very high maintenance .
9. very costly.
10. Unreliable.
